I was thinking about this for days, and none of the movies came close to being as good. It doesn't have all the songs, but there are other good ones in it. The only other movie I found was "Meet John Doe." It's not your typical love story or anything, but there are some similarities. 1) The female lead is struggling to find herself while also falling in love with a guy who she meets at a radio station where she works. 2) This guy ends up being chronically unemployed and living on the street while trying to get into one high-profile event after another just so he can talk about how much he hates the rich people who are responsible for his condition. 3) The lead character: very likeable and quite cute, but ultimately very naïve and yet open and honest about what she wants and needs out of life. 4) Ah, the final scene. She's talking to her friend about how she'll marry someone who meets all her requirements (this guy does, too). But I won't ruin it for those who haven't seen it. 5) The best part: the guy is such a loser that he doesn't even know where his own name comes from ("Seymour" or "Myers", depending on which script you read), so she has to tell him three times before he believes her. 6) Also, he gets upset when she doesn't reciprocate his feelings. In other words, they eventually get together because he's kind of a sap and she's kind of a sap. You don't really see the chemistry between the two characters either, but at least there is a pretty good kiss at the end. Anyway, I was thinking about this movie for days and I don't know if it was merely a strange coincidence or just pure dumb luck that "American Pie 2" came out the same year as "Memento. "Even if "American Pie 3" didn't come out until a few months later, I might have been sick of this movie long before then. Eventually life caught up to me and I couldn't watch this thing anymore. I thought about writing a review, but it seemed so pointless after the first two were so well-written. So instead, I'm going to point out some aspects of "American Pie 2" that strike me as being quite interesting. 1) The South Park episode is an extremely poor representation of this movie. The comparison isn't even that accurate, since the third part is more or less just a rehash of the second part, yet it's still more fun than the first part. So the third part doesn't follow the same pattern since it's kind of a clone of part 2. Consequently, I can't tell if this is what was in the original script, but the ending in particular is much more fitting to this movie. 2) I wonder if movie producers are secretly trying to make us lose interest in these movies because they blatantly give away an important aspect of the second part in trailers for parts 3 and 4. 3) The jokes in this film are not particularly funny, but they're much better than the ones in part 1. I don't know if that answers whether or not "American Pie" has officially jumped the shark.
